Car Recovery in Birmingham
24/7 car recovery in Birmingham and Solihull can take a car that can't be driven to the garage, home or town you choose. Tell us where the car is, where it's going and whether it starts, rolls and steers. Snap asks independent recovery operators covering the area for prices and availability, then sends you one quote. There's no membership to join.

Or call 078 3333 9309, Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm. Outside those hours, send your request online or on WhatsApp.
If anyone is hurt, there's a fire or you're in danger, call 999 first. Snap is not an emergency service. On the M6 from junction 4 to 10a the hard shoulder is used as a traffic lane at times, so go left into an emergency area if you can, with hazard lights on. If it's safe, get out on the side away from traffic and get behind the barrier. If you can't get out safely, stay in the car with your seatbelt on and call 999 and ask for the police.
Recovery and roadside jobs you can request in Birmingham
An independent operator does the work on each of these jobs. Snap arranges it and keeps you updated.
- Towing and recovery. A car that won't start, won't roll or isn't safe to drive, moved across Birmingham or out to another town. See towing and recovery.
- Breakdown assistance. Describe what the car is doing and the job is quoted as a jump start or a recovery. See breakdown assistance, or help for a car that won't start.
- Accident recovery. Contact your insurer first, using the details in your policy documents. If you're arranging recovery yourself, it's quoted for the damage, access and journey. See accident recovery.
- Jump start.A jump start may restart a car with a discharged battery, whether it's on a drive in Harborne or in a car park in Digbeth. If the jump start doesn't get the car going, the operator may charge for the attempt, and a tow is quoted as a separate job. See jump start.
Recovery to your own garage or home from anywhere in Birmingham
The garage in Perry Barr that already knows the car, a main dealer, your own drive in Sutton Coldfield, or somewhere safe until a repair is booked: you pick the drop-off, and the quote is built on the pickup and the drop-off together.
The move can be planned, too. For a car that failed its MOT, has sat on a Kings Heath drive with a warning light, or is waiting for a garage slot, request a quote for a planned move. In the quote form, choose "On or by a specific date" and pick the collection day on the calendar, or choose "I'm flexible" if the garage can take the car any day that week. Tell us your preferred destination and check it can accept the car. Confirm any waiting, storage or onward move before booking. Say where the keys will be, and whether someone will meet the operator at each end.
Longer-distance recovery is quoted for the route and the vehicle. With the M6, the M5 and the M42 meeting around the city, a car bound for a specialist or a home in another town can be priced for the whole journey from the start.
Request a quote for a planned moveBirmingham pickups: motorways, the NEC and city car parks
Where the car has stopped shapes the job, so a few extra details help the quote match it.
- On the M6, M5 or M42. Once you're safe, send the motorway, the direction of travel, the last junction you passed and the marker post number. If the car stopped at Spaghetti Junction, that's M6 junction 6: say which road you were on and which way you were heading.
- At the NEC, bp pulse LIVE or Birmingham Airport. These are in Solihull, next to the city, and M42 junction 6 on the A45 is signed for the NEC and Birmingham International. Name the car park or the road, and write "Solihull" in the location.
- In a city-centre multi-storey. Send the car park's name, the level, the height shown at the entrance and a photo of the access point. Say whether the car is on a ramp. Loading methods available through the network include a flatbed, a low loader, wheel skates and a winch, and the one used is matched to the details you give.
- On a residential street. Say whether the car is on a drive, at the kerb or in a narrow road, and how close a vehicle can get to it.
- The car's condition. Say whether it starts, rolls and steers, whether the wheels or steering are locked, and whether it's an automatic, electric or hybrid. Many electric and hybrid cars should be moved with their wheels off the ground, so check the handbook.
- Keys and people. Say where the keys are and who is with the car, including children and pets.
What a Birmingham recovery quote is based on
Your quote depends on the pickup and drop-off, the car's condition, access and operator availability. You see the total for your job before you accept.
As an indicative guide, not a set tariff, a local tow up to 10 miles typically costs £50 to £150, and a jump start typically costs £50 to £100. Northfield to a garage in Walsall is priced for that route. A Kings Heath drive to a garage down the road is priced for that one.
Here is how the one quote works. You send one request. Snap assesses the job, checks prices and availability with suitable operators, and sends you one quote with Snap's booking fee and the operator's charge shown separately. You accept it or turn it down, and nothing is booked until you accept. The quote rests on what you tell us, so if the car turns out not to roll, or the truck can't reach the spot described, the price can change. Put the awkward details in from the start. Both indicative ranges include Snap's booking fee. More on what goes into a recovery quote.
Birmingham areas, Solihull and the Clean Air Zone
Send a request from Sutton Coldfield and Erdington in the north down to Northfield and Kings Heath in the south, or from Aston, Digbeth and the Jewellery Quarter near the centre. Solihull is a separate borough next door, and a pickup there works the same way. Postcode districts run from B1 in the city centre to B72 to B76 around Sutton Coldfield, with B90 to B94 in Solihull.
Sending a request asks for a quote. Operator availability for your pickup is checked before one comes back.
If the car was driven inside the A4540 Middleway, Birmingham's Clean Air Zone charges private cars that don't meet its emission standards. The Middleway itself isn't in the zone. Check the registration on GOV.UK's clean air zone vehicle checker.
How paying for a Birmingham recovery works
Asking for a quote costs nothing. If you go ahead, the money side runs in this order.
- Send your request 24/7. Requests are handled round the clock, not just in office hours.
- Accept the quote, then pay Snap's booking fee by bank transfer, using the details on your tracking page. Snap doesn't take card payments on this website. You get a receipt for your booking fee.
- Look out for the operator's details and an estimated arrival time by SMS or WhatsApp.
- Pay the operator's charge to the operator when the job is done.
- Changing your mind. Cancel within 15 minutes of confirming, or before an operator is assigned, whichever comes first, and the booking fee is refunded in full. See paying for a booking, and cancelling and refunds.
Birmingham recovery questions: car parks, garages and damaged cars
What's needed to collect a car from a multi-storey in central Birmingham?
Access decides the job, so start with the entrance. Heights differ: Q-Park Newhall Street states 1.88 m and Q-Park Mailbox 2.05 m. Send the car park's name, the level, the entrance height, a photo of the access point, and whether the car rolls.
Can my car be taken to a garage in Solihull or elsewhere outside Birmingham?
Yes. The drop-off is your choice, in Birmingham, Solihull or another town. Give the garage's name and address, check it can accept the car when it arrives, and confirm any waiting or storage before you book. Longer moves are quoted for the route and the vehicle.
My car won't roll or steer on a Birmingham street. Can it still be moved?
You can request a quote for it. Say whether the wheels or steering are locked, whether it's an automatic stuck in park, and how close a vehicle can get. The quote is built on those details, so an accurate description matters more than anything else in the request.
What should I send after a collision on the M6 near Spaghetti Junction?
Get safe first, and call 999 if anyone is hurt or in danger. Then contact your insurer using your policy documents, and ask whether they arrange recovery. If you're arranging recovery yourself, send the junction, the direction, the damage and photos. It's quoted for the damage, access and journey.
Can a car be collected from my Sutton Coldfield drive on a day I choose?
Yes, as a planned move. Pick the collection day on the quote form's calendar, say where the keys will be, and check the garage is open and can take the car that day.
