Who we are

Snap Car Recovery (snapcarrecovery.co.uk) is a vehicle recovery marketplace operated under the trading name Snap Car Recovery, based in the United Kingdom. We connect customers with independent recovery operators — we do not directly provide recovery services.

For the purposes of UK data protection law, Snap Car Recovery is the data controller for personal information collected through this website.

If you have any questions about this policy, email us at info@snapcarrecovery.co.uk.

Data we collect

We collect personal data in the following ways:

Information you give us

  • Your name and mobile number (required to submit a quote request)
  • Your vehicle registration number
  • Your pickup and drop-off locations
  • Photos of your vehicle (if you choose to upload them)
  • Your preferred contact method (SMS or WhatsApp)
  • Any additional notes you include with your request

Information we collect automatically

  • IP address and approximate location (country/region level)
  • Browser type, device type, and operating system
  • Pages visited, time on site, and how you arrived (referral source)
  • Session identifiers stored in cookies and localStorage

Information from verification

  • One-time passcodes (OTPs) sent to your mobile for identity verification — these are not stored after use

How we use it

We use your personal data to:

  • Process your quote request and connect you with an available recovery operator
  • Send you booking confirmations and status updates via SMS or WhatsApp
  • Allow you to track your job and verify your identity securely
  • Notify our team about new recovery requests
  • Detect and prevent fraudulent or duplicate submissions
  • Improve our platform using anonymised analytics data
  • Respond to any queries or complaints you raise

We do not use your data for unsolicited marketing. We will not send you promotional messages without your explicit consent.

Under UK GDPR, we must have a lawful basis for processing your personal data. We rely on:

  • Contract performance — processing your quote request and connecting you with an operator is necessary to fulfil the service you have requested.
  • Legitimate interests — fraud prevention, platform security, and improving our service through analytics, where this does not override your rights.
  • Legal obligation — where we are required to retain or disclose data by law.
  • Consent — for any optional analytics or marketing communications, which you may withdraw at any time.

Who we share your data with

We share your information only where necessary. This includes:

  • Recovery operators — once a job is assigned, the relevant operator receives your name, contact number, vehicle details, and pickup/drop-off locations so they can carry out the service. Operators are independent businesses, not employees of Snap Car Recovery.
  • Communication providers — we use Brevo (SMS) and Evolution API (WhatsApp) to deliver booking notifications to you. These providers process your phone number on our behalf under data processing agreements.
  • Infrastructure providers — we use Supabase for secure data storage and Vercel to host the platform. Both operate under appropriate data protection agreements.
  • Analytics — see the Analytics section below.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party.

Analytics & tracking

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our site. Google Analytics collects information such as pages visited, time on site, and general location (city level). This data is aggregated and anonymised — it is not linked to your quote request or personal identity.

Google Analytics uses cookies to distinguish unique visitors. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking at any time using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by adjusting your cookie preferences via our Cookie Policy.

We do not use advertising networks, retargeting pixels, or third-party tracking beyond Google Analytics.

How long we keep your data

  • Quote and booking records — retained for 12 months from the date of submission, then deleted or anonymised.
  • Vehicle photos — retained for 90 days, then automatically deleted from storage.
  • OTP verification records — deleted within 24 hours of use or expiry.
  • Tracking session tokens — expire after 7 days of inactivity.
  • Analytics data — retained by Google Analytics per their standard retention settings (26 months by default).

We may retain data for longer if required by law or to resolve a dispute.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data
  • Erasure — ask us to delete your data (the "right to be forgotten")
  • Restriction — ask us to limit how we use your data
  • Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time

To exercise any of these rights, email us at info@snapcarrecovery.co.uk. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Security

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. These include encrypted data storage, HTTPS across all pages, and access controls limiting who can view your information.

No system is completely secure. In the unlikely event of a data breach that affects your rights, we will notify you and the ICO as required by law.
