Summary
We keep this simple. Snap Car Recovery sets one essential cookie, and only when you submit a quote request. Analytics cookies, from Google Analytics and PostHog, are optional: they are set only if you accept them in the cookie banner, and you can change your mind at any time. We use no advertising cookies of any kind.
If you do not accept them, we still count visits to the site, using a method that stores nothing on your device. Both are explained under Analytics, where you can also switch them off.
We do use your browser's own storage to hold your place in the quote form and to remember that you have verified your identity. That data stays on your device. Both are explained below.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files a website places on your device, sent back to the site on each visit. They are how a site remembers something between page loads — that you are logged in, for example.
Browser storage (localStorage and sessionStorage) does a similar job but is technically different: it is saved in your browser and is never automatically sent to any server. UK cookie rules — the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations — cover both, so this policy does too.
Essential cookies
These are strictly necessary for the service to work. They do not require consent under UK law, and the site cannot function properly without them.

Analytics
We count visits to this website, so we can see which pages are used and how people find us. Two tools do this. PostHog always runs, but stores nothing on your device unless you accept analytics cookies. Google Analytics uses cookies, so it runs only if you accept analytics cookies.

- How quickly each page loaded
- Key steps you take on the site
Neither tool records anything you type into the quote form — not your name, phone number, vehicle registration, or addresses — and neither records your screen or every click you make, only key steps.
How visits are counted without cookies
Until you accept analytics cookies, and if you decline them, PostHog turns your IP address and browser details into an anonymous code, using a key that is replaced every day and then discarded. The code lets us count one visitor once within a day. It cannot be used to recognise you from one day to the next or on any other website, and your IP address is not stored with the visit. This data is held on PostHog's servers in the EU.
Analytics cookies
If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics and PostHog set the cookies below. They hold a random number that lets each tell one visitor from another and recognise a return visit. Nothing is loaded from Google Analytics, and none of these cookies is set, unless you accept.

Google Analytics data is processed by Google, which may hold it on servers outside the UK. Google Analytics does not store your IP address. We have switched off its advertising features, so it is used for visit statistics only. PostHog data is held on PostHog's servers in the EU, without your IP address. You can change your choice here at any time. Turning the cookies off also deletes them from this browser, and PostHog goes back to counting your visits without cookies.

You can stop your visits being counted on this browser at any time. This stops both tools and turns analytics cookies off. Your choice is saved in your browser's storage, so it applies to this device only and is lost if you clear site data.

Marketing & advertising cookies
We use none. No advertising networks, no retargeting or conversion pixels, no social media tracking, and no data sold or shared with advertisers. We will not introduce any without asking for your consent first.
Browser storage
We use your browser's local storage for the things below. Apart from PostHog's copy of its random number, which is sent with each visit just as its cookie is, this data is held on your device only — it is not transmitted to our servers or to anyone else.

You can clear all of these at any time by clearing site data for snapcarrecovery.co.uk in your browser. Clearing the access token means you will need to verify by passcode again to see your full job details, clearing the cookie choice means the banner asks again, and clearing the analytics opt-out means your visits are counted again.
Third-party content
Some features load content from other companies, which may set their own cookies when they load:
- Google Maps and Places — powers address suggestions and the map. Google may set cookies when map or address components load. Their use of that data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
- Google Fonts — delivers the typeface used across the site. It sets no cookies.
We do not control cookies set by third parties. Blocking third-party cookies in your browser is the most effective way to limit them, and the site will still work — though map and address suggestions may be affected.
Your consent
Under UK law, consent is needed for cookies that are not strictly necessary — analytics, advertising, and tracking. The Google Analytics and PostHog cookies are the only ones of that kind here, so the banner asks about those and nothing else. Declining is one tap, and the site works the same either way.
The position in short

- Cookieless visit counting: runs if you have not accepted analytics cookies, without storing anything on your device. You can switch this off under Analytics.

- Third-party embedded content: the Google Maps and address components described above may set their own cookies. You can prevent these by blocking third-party cookies in your browser.
If we ever add another non-essential cookie, the banner will ask again before it is set, and you will be able to accept or decline.
What happens if you block things
If you block all cookies — you can still browse the site, look up a vehicle, and submit a quote request. The one effect is that the confirmation page immediately after you submit may not show your details, because it relies on the 5-minute cookie above. Your request is still received, and you will get your reference by SMS or WhatsApp regardless.
If you block browser storage — some privacy modes block localStorage separately from cookies. If that happens, the quote form cannot save your progress, so refreshing the page loses what you have entered, and you will need to verify by passcode each time you open your tracking page.

Managing your preferences
You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings:
Most browsers also let you send a “Do Not Track” signal. Our cookieless visit counting does not follow you from one day to the next or across websites, and analytics cookies are set only if you have accepted them, so the signal changes nothing here. To stop your visits being counted at all, use the switch under Analytics.
Blocking all cookies will affect how the site works — in particular, your confirmation page may not load correctly after you submit a quote. Blocking only third-party cookies avoids that.
Updates to this policy
We may update this policy if we change the technologies we use or if the law changes. The date at the top of this page always shows when it was last revised, so you can tell whether anything has moved since you last read it.
If we introduce any further cookie that requires consent, we will update this policy and ask for your consent before setting it — the policy change alone would not be enough.
